Since beginning as a 13 member Teen Introductory team in September 2001, the Thomas Creek Figure Skating Club Mirror Images have grown and evolved into three different teams. The season starts in late August and winds up in April. This year there is a Beginner team, an Open Juvenile team and an Intermediate team. The Beginner and Open-Juvenile teams practice once a week on Saturday mornings. The Intermediate team practices several times a week both on and off the ice.
Traditionally the Mirror Images hold a yearly “team building” day in early October, which enables both new and veteran skaters to get to know each other better and begin working together as a group. Another favorite activity is the annual “hair & makeup” luncheon, when each team’s new, customized “look” for the season is unveiled by the coaches.
Competitions and ice shows keep the Mirror Images busy from mid November to early April. The teams perform in Thomas Creek Ice Shows and at local exhibitions. In past years the team has been guest skaters in Buffalo, Geneva, Geneseo and Webster. During the season, the travel team participates in 4-5 competitions throughout New York. The team also travels out-of-state for larger events such as the Colonial Classic in Massachusetts and the Eastern Sectional Synchronized Skating Championships most recently held in Morristown, NJ. The beginner and home teams compete on a smaller scale at local competitions throughout the season.
